world events

Without a computer, I've been a little light on the news, but today I was up early enough to actually retrieve my New York Times before it was stolen. Natural disasters often yield predictable news; old people die when anything happens, politicians arrange to hand out supplies while photographers are present, Congress argues over funding allocation. However, while there has been much news about squalid conditions at the Superdome, this morning the Times reported that there were nearly as many people in the less-publicized convention center, and that gangs of armed thugs had taken over and were ruling through rape and violence.

No pig heads on sticks yet, but I suppose the lesson is that none of us are immune from Lord of the Flies syndrome. Or that the lesbian separatists were right.

Been a bit behind on news of you, so I'll be brief and thorough.

-Two Geniuses... Genii... Apple employees I recommend talking to are Will and Josh. Will especially, as I have known him since he was a wee lad. Hopefully they will be able to help.

-Sorry to hear about the cowboy. Would it be wrong to blame the taxi door incident?

-Most of the hurricane damage is in the "awful calamity" range, but New Orleans is, actually, just about at the pigs' heads on stakes level. Arson, snipers, rapes and murders in the superdome, dead bodies being eaten by rats in the street... I've been trying to keep track of what's going on here:

It's a very, very weird thing happening. One BBC reporter said the conditions in New Orleans were worse than any third world war zone he'd ever seen. Some people are speculating that at this point the only way to honestly categorize what's happening in NOLA in by calling it a civil war.
